As promised, Dana Whtie kicked off the UFC Fight Island 7 main card with an announcement regarding Khabib Nurmagomedov.
It’s been well documented that Nurmagomedov had a meeting with White regarding his future with the promotion on Friday. So what was the big announcement?
White announced that Nurmagomedov will not tie up the division and says if the lightweights at UFC 257 “show [him] something”, he might return. Of course, those lightweights are Conor McGregor vs. Dustin Poirier and Michael Chandler vs. Dan Hooker.
This tweet is gold and sums up the situation:
Nurmagomedov’s career appeared to come to a close when he locked in a triangle on Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 on October 24, 2020. The reasoning for the retirement is due to his mother wanting him to stop following the passing of his father.
