We could be getting Jon Jones’ first fight at heavyweight with a title shot on the line, according to UFC president Dana White.
So, here’s the deal. Jones vacated the UFC light heavyweight title and is starting to bulk up for a run at heavyweight. Current champ Stipe Miocic is expected to make his next title defense against Francis Ngannou, but there could be some issues with that as Jones is supposed to get an immediate shot at the title.
Jon Jones Will Get Immediate Heavyweight Title Shot
While Dana says Francis is next in line, a superfight between Stipe and Jon would obviously be more marketable than a rematch in which Francis got dominated.
“Of course,” White said. “I mean realistically, Jon Jones is undefeated. He’s never been beat. Mazzagatti’s been out of the game for years. I don’t mean to keep beating this guy up, but you know. Jon Jones is undefeated.”
“Last time we talked to Jon Jones, Jon Jones said he was going to take some time and do his things he’s into right now and take some time, and when there’s a right fight, he’ll give us a call,” White said (H/T to MMA Fighting).
