Dana White Shares Next Opponent For Valentina Shevchenko

UFC women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko has received her next opponent, according to UFC president Dana White.

Valentina was supposed to defend the title against Joanne Calderwood at UFC 251. However, that’s changed. In April, Shevchenko confirmed that she underwent surgery for her injured leg.

Joanne Calderwood vs. Jennifer Maia took place in a women’s strawweight bout at the UFC On ESPN+ 31 event in Las Vegas, Nevada at the UFC APEX on Saturday night.

Maia scored an armbar win in the first round. Maia was a big underdog in this fight and will get the next title shot.

“Yeah, that’s the fight,” White said at the post-fight press conference (via MMA Fighting). “I have a lot of respect for [Joanne Calderwood], she’s been working hard, taking her career very serious and has been back on track since she moved to Vegas. Jennifer looked damn good tonight so it makes sense for her and Valentina to fight.”
