Dustin Poirier Refutes Dana White’s Claims On Why Tony Ferguson Fight Won’t Happen

The latest drama went down between Dana White and Dustin Poirier on Tuesday night.

It had been reported that Ferguson had verbally agreed to the terms proposed by the UFC, but the holdup is Porier as he wanted more money. This fight was supposed to be the co-headliner of UFC 254.

When White met with the media on Tuesday, he wasn’t negative about the title contender, but did indicate that Dustin talked his way out of getting the fight done.

Dustin Poirier Refutes Dana White’s Claims

“Listen, I like Dustin,” White told reporters at the DWCS 33 post-fight news conference on Tuesday. “I’m not going to sit up here and say anything negative about Dustin, he’s a great kid. I don’t know if it was he didn’t want to fight in Abu Dhabi or what his deal was – he didn’t want to fight.

“Listen, there’s a lot of different ways to turn down a fight. Negotiating yourself out of one is one of the ways you can do it. So for whatever reason, he didn’t want to take this fight. Only he knows that. I told you we’ve got a fight. I don’t see Tony not accepting the fight.”

And then Poirier responded by writing the following in a text message to MMA Junkie:

“I do want that fight. Simple and plain, I want to fight Tony. I like the matchup.”
