Colby Covington vs. Tyron Woodley took place in a welterweight bout at the UFC On ESPN+ 36 event on Saturday night in Las Vegas, Nevada at the UFC APEX.
Covington got a takedown within the first minute of the fight and moved to full guard. From there, he started to outland Woodley with his strikes while Woodley tried his best to land, but struggled. Woodley got upset in the third round after getting poked in the eye and outstriked. Covington continued to pitch a shutout throughout the fight. Woodley just didn’t have an answer. When Covington got a takedown, Woodley started yelling he hurt his ribs and the fight was stopped in the fifth round.
Covington had his 7-fight winning streak snapped when he lost to Kamaru Usman at UFC 245 with the welterweight title on the line in the headliner.
Woodley has fallen from grace after being the welterweight champion. Before this fight, he had dropped his last two fights with both coming by decision – Kamaru Usman at UFC 235 and Gilbert Burns this past May.
