Holly Holm vs. Irene Aldana Postponed, New UFC On ESPN+ 31 Headliner

Welp, the scheduled fight between Holly Holm and Irene Aldana has been postponed.

A middleweight showdown pitting Derek Brunson against Edmen Shahbazyan will now serve as the headliner of the UFC event, a Fight Night event, on August 1st.

UFC President Dana White made the announcement on his official Instagram account on Wednesday.

Aldana withdrew from the fight and the matchup is postponed, possibly until October, according to Holm’s manager Lenny Fresquez.

“Holly is very disappointed and saddened that her fight was postponed, but stuff happens,” Fresquez said to MMA Fighting. “We’re only interested in fighting someone that’s going to help us get a title shot. So there’s only really two girls, and that’s Aldana and [Aspen] Ladd, and Ladd’s out.”

Brunson and Shahbazyan were already scheduled for the same show, but now it is the main event. The UFC has only confirmed one bout for UFC on ESPN+ 31, as of this writing.
