Jorge Masvidal is more than willing to replace Gilbert Burns in the main event of UFC 251.
Burns tested positive for COVID-19. Thus, Burns is out of his scheduled fight with welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, which was supposed to serve as the main event. The fight is expected to be rescheduled at a later date.
The beef between the title contender and UFC brass started when Masvidal came out and questioned the payoffs from the promotion. He had been tied to fight against Usman before Burns took his spot at UFC 251.
According to Ariel Helwani, Masvidal is ready to take the short-notice fight. The UFC hasn’t issued a statement on the matter nor what they plan to do with Usman next.
“According to Jorge Masvidal’s manager Abraham Kawa, Masvidal is “absolutely willing” to take the Kamaru Usman fight on a week’s notice.”
