We have some sad news to pass along as Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father has passed away.
Abdulmanap died in a Moscow hospital due to complications stemming from Covid-19 infection at the age of 57.
It all started when he suffered a heart attack after being diagnosed with the deadly coronavirus. It required emergency bypass surgery after which he was twice placed into a medically-induced coma.
His condition had been reported by doctors as ‘serious but stable’, but things changed. Chechen Republic leader and friend of the family Ramzan Kadyrov reported the news on Friday.
Clearly, this is going to impact Khabib both inside and outside of the Octagon. Thus, it’s safe to say that there’s a good possibility that it will delay his scheduled lightweight title defense against Justin Gaethje, which was targeted to take place in September.
Our thoughts go out to the Nurmagomedov family.
