According to a report from the Brazilian publication Combate, Khamzat Chimaev, an undefeated UFC welterweight contender, is apparently unable to leave Russia after Chechen authorities reportedly took his passport after he arrived in St. Petersburg.

Chimaev came in St. Petersburg, Russia, this week with plans to see family in his home Chechnya. Since then, the authorities have confiscated his passport, preventing him from leaving the country.

Khamzat Chimaev’s team is presently in talks with Swedish government representatives about speeding up their return to Sweden. Chimaev, a citizen of Sweden, is presently undergoing training with AllStars MMA there under the direction of head coach Andreas Michael. The 28-year-old moved to Sweden when she was 19 years old.

Chimaev, the third-ranked welterweight contender, defeated Kevin Holland via first-round D’Arce choke submission last month in the co-main event of UFC 279 to raise his professional mixed martial arts record to 12-0.
